So if they pick incompetent outdoors then they are likely to wear their nicest shoes when walking through the forrest and complain the entire way. Now the min-maxer in me says pick outdoors and just rely on the rest of the party for aid there, but the GM in me says that the player should have to role play it. I like your list for the face, no matter what they pick they lose something potentially useful. Now if the player were a rigger, then ok. Point two, don't take that as a criticism to your asking the question :) Your point about the engineering skills not allowing defaulting is a very good one, I agree with your assessment based purely on that. Gamemasters are free to reject any choices that would prove irrelevant or exploitative in actual play, such as Incompetent: Outdoors in a campaign based entirely inside an arcology. Otherwise, it's a negative quality, they're meant to hurt.Īs for Incompetent: point one, the quality description say it. Then I might be inclined to not penalise the player, but that would mostly be me saying "you lose 1 karma for messing up, you gain 1 karma for role playing your character". In the event that the player TRULY did everything within their power to stop a player killing a member of the protected group (to the extent of non-fataly shooting the attacking player), and after failing possibly even sought retribution against the player or forced them to seek recompense. If so, might disallow use of any matrix actions at all by the PC?)ĭo you think this is a reasonable list? What do you think about Electronics/Engineering for a Troll face character? Electronics (maybe? not sure about this one.
Based on the character (non-magical, non-decker/TM), I narrowed the remaining skill groups available to be Incompetent in to: I've said that he can't take Incompetence in the Engineering skill group, because if you don't put ranks in any of the skills you can't use them anyway, so I'm not too sure how being incompetent in that area would come up. The other thing was the Incompetence negative quality.

The PC is arguing that if he takes all reasonable steps to try and stop other PCs from killing them, that he shouldn't suffer any karma penalty. I took this to mean (along with "a matter of unwavering principle"."they will not kill or allow others to kill") that if anyone in the group kills a troll (presumably, while in the presence of the PC/that the PC is aware of?), the PC will receive one less karma at mission end. Whether intentionally or inadvertently, the character losesĪ point of Karma for that adventure for each person in If a person in the character’s chosen group is killed, This is fine with me, because I'm sure it'll come up at least once per game.

I was discussing with a player who wanted to take Code of Honor negative quality, with trolls as a metatype to protect (the PC being a troll).
